Introduction and aim: The current study is provided for floristic research of Pinnulariaceae for the first time in Iran from 1972 to July 2021. The pinnulariaceae family contains 6 genera Pinnularia, Oestrupia, Hygropetra, Envekadea, Diatomella, and Craspedopleura which are two genera Pinnularia and Diatomella have been recorded in Iran. The purpose of the present study was to provide a checklist of Pinnularaceae in Iran ecosystems. Methods: Different recourses were used to provide this paper, including the thesis of students' dissertations, books, and articles. The old taxonomic names of taxa were converted to new names based on algae-based websites. Results: This taxonomic list contains 2 genera comprises Diatomella and Pinnularia. It includes 52 species with emphasis on the Pinnularia Ehrenberg genus from various ecosystems. The Pinnularia was the most frequent genus with 51 species and 98% of the species in the Pinnulariaceae. Diatomella Greville was stand in the second genus in the frequency of population (2%) with 1 species. There are only one species of Diatomella in the current checklist of Pinnulariaceae which has been reported from Kordan River in Alborz Province. Conclusion: Some of the species’ names have changed based on this update.

Introduction and aim: Diatoms are small phototrophic organisms with an essential role in the food chain in terrestrial and aquatic environments. The purpose of the present study was to optimize and improve the methods for diatom sample preparations. Methods: The difference between the improved method with the old ones is based on the 3-interval time of the supernatant collection. Also, the centrifuge is not necessary for this improved method. Results: The average number of cells in our proposed method was 338% higher than the other methods. Conclusion: The preparation of specimen suspension and caution in a sampling of stations, is the most important factor for obtaining a maximum sample of diatoms.

Introduction and Aim: Diatoms are one of the most important branches of algae which are classified as pinnate and centric groups. Taleghan River is one of the main tributaries of Sepid Roud in Iran, which has 180 km in length. This study was complementary to the previous diatom projects in Taleghan River and introducing the new record for this area. Methods: This study was carried out from Shahrivar 1398 to Shahrivar 1399 for one year and samples were collected seasonally from two upstream stations. 60 ml of precipitates was collected from 1 cm depth of the River using a syringe and fixed in 4% Formalin. The permanent slides were provided based on the standard protocol and the images were captured with a photomicroscope. Results: During the sampling from two stations upstream of Taleghan Dam, Pinnularia grunowii Krammer was identified as a new record for the diatom flora of Iran. The most important morphological characters of this taxon are the valve outline treeudulate, non-curved striae, and it's size which make it different from the other similar taxa such as; Pinnularia subanglica Petersen, Pinnularia biceps Gregory, Pinnularia lundii var. linearis Krammer, and Pinnularia angusta var. angusta (Cleve) Krammer. Conclusion: It is necessary to investigate in other ecosystems of Iran to understand the ecology and distribution of the Pinnularia grunowii Krammer.
